The origin of the term "ARIZONA" is the Americanization of the Papago word Ali-shonak, meaning "Place of Little Springs." The Papagos are one of fourteen Native American tribes living in Arizona. It is said that one seventh of all Native Americans live in the place of “Little Springs”... the great state of Arizona.
A “ZONIE” is an Arizonan; a resident of the last of the contiguous states to achieve statehood on February 14th, 1912.
